This program is designed to prepare students for careers assisting physicians by performing medical office clerical skills and health care clinical skills. First-year instruction focuses on teaching these skills as well as workplace readiness skills, ethics, medical asepsis, basic human anatomy and physiology, medical math, and medical terminology. To be eligible for the second year, a student must earn a final grade of B or higher, be recommended by their instructor, have no more than 4 CCTC absences, have a valid driver’s license and their own transportation to their clinical site and have proof of recent physical including immunizations and TB test before the start of the second year. The second-year course is not open to postgraduate students. In preparation for their clinical experience, students earn certifications in first aid and CPR. Then, through advanced on-the-job clinical experience in physicians’ offices or clinics, students further develop their medical-assisting skills and techniques. Students can earn certifications in HIPAA Privacy Rule and OSHA. A credential-earning certification assessment will be administered at the end of the program. To be eligible to take the assessment, students must pass both years of Medical Assistant with final grades of B or higher and have all competencies completed.
